About New Form 6B
Form 6B is available on the ECI/CEO websites and on GARUDA, NVSP, VHA, etc. for online filling of Aadhaar. Those who prefer the offline route can submit a hard copy of Form 6B to booth-level officers. These officers have been asked to digitize the collected forms within seven days of their receipt.
The new form has been introduced with effect from August 1 “for collecting Aadhaar numbers of existing electors to authenticate the entries in the electoral rolls and thus make it absolutely error-free,” the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Delhi, said in a statement.
“April 1, 2023, is the date on or before which every person whose name is included in the electoral roll may intimate his Aadhaar number in accordance with Section 23 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. The furnishing of the Aadhaar number is purely voluntary, “the CEO’s office said in the statement. Last year, the Union Ministry of Law and Justice amended laws for this purpose.
The Legislative Department in the Union Law Ministry had recently issued notifications announcing that the rules have been amended in line with the provisions of the Election Laws (Amendment) Act, 2021, passed by Parliament in December last year. The government has amended the Registration of Electors Rules to allow the linking of Aadhaar details with voter lists to weed out duplicate entries and make election law gender-neutral for service voters.
